MW6140 Maternal-Child Health Systems in a Global Context

This systems-focused course examines perinatal, postpartum, maternal and child health in a global context with consideration of the impact on childbearing persons, infants, children, and adolescents. It offers a scoping review of the history of global maternal and child health (MCH) efforts; the global burden of disease and premature death on MCH populations; the effects of globalization on mothers, childbearing persons and children; the heterogeneity of resources and systems of care among countries; and current programmatic and policy efforts to address the health needs of MCH populations. The course seeks to provide important knowledge and perspectives on global issues through the MCH lens. This course is appropriate for students in the MCHS program and those in other health profession programs considering a career that includes a global focus; it is offered remotely.
