MW6139 Advocacy for MCH Policies and Practices
The course offers the student a participatory learning approach to explore the ways leaders can communicate health information and health policy goals successfully to different groups of stakeholders. Students compare and contrast approaches relevant to collaborating with and educating clients and their families, communities, professional colleagues, students/apprentices, MCH/perinatal health and other organizations, and policymakers who can support persons and families during the childbearing and lactation years. Students also gain firsthand experience honing the legislative advocacy skills necessary to achieve policy change and advocacy is emphasized as a key tool to secure funding and to help assure that local, state, and federal policymakers will adopt, implement, and maintain important health regulations, policies and programs that impact maternal, infant, perinatal and postpartum health. This course coordinates with Professional Focus D.
