PAP5101 Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy I
This first course in a series of three provides an introductory exploration of psychedelic medicines, focusing on psilocybin and ketamine. Students gain a strong foundation in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, exploring the mechanisms of action of these substances on the brain. The course also delves into the ethical and cultural considerations of psychedelic therapy, examining historical and contemporary contexts, power dynamics, and cultural sensitivity. Participants develop skills in screening and preparation for psychedelic-assisted therapy sessions, learning informed consent, participant safety, and the creation of a safe and supportive environment. Additionally, the course explores the historical and cultural context of plant and fungal medicines, examining traditional preparation methods, cultural ceremonies, and the spiritual significance of these substances. Finally, participants gain essential skills for establishing a therapeutic environment conducive to the safe and effective delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
