NM7352 Naturopathic Approaches to Addictions and Mental Health

This course explores the evaluation, treatment, and management of addictions and mental health conditions from a naturopathic medicine perspective. Students examine neurological, biochemical, cognitive, emotional, and socio political factors that contribute to these conditions, while learning to apply naturopathic principles within an evidence informed framework. Instruction includes the use of physical examination, diagnostic questionnaires, imaging, and other assessment tools to support accurate diagnosis. The naturopathic scope of practice is clearly defined throughout, with emphasis on appropriate clinical decision making, standards of care, and the integration of community resources and referral networks. Students gain practical experience with naturopathic treatment approaches as they relate to both addiction and broader mental health concerns.
