NM7369 Emergency Medicine
This course is designed to equip future naturopathic physicians with the crucial decision-making skills required at the intersection of outpatient and emergency medicine. Utilizing an intensive case-based learning format, students will be presented with serious chief complaints (e.g., chest pain, abdominal pain, altered mental status) and must actively work through the patient encounter—from targeted history and physical exam to diagnostic workup and differential diagnosis (DDx). Emphasis is placed on applying core Emergency Medicine tenets to rapidly stratify patient risk, mastering key clinical skills (such as EKG interpretation and toxicology screening), and executing precise, safe decisions. The course incorporates instruction on effective communication and detailed documentation necessary for successful transitions of care between outpatient and emergency settings.
